Summer time! Got to love this weather, especially when it's only above 50 degrees 4.5 months a year up here. Everyone is pumped for the lake, family vacation, making some spending money and playing sports other than hockey. Every single person should enjoy these things, although that doesn't mean you unzip your hockey bag and not touch it until next season's tryouts. Come on now, you can't just pick up where you left off last season and expect to be a superstar. Name one guy or girl in the NHL, National Team, DI/DIII, Juniors or AAA that does that! ....chirping birds.... I don't know anyone at those levels that take 4 months off either.

Skill development and maintenance is crucial to constantly improving. Getting stronger and faster are so important in route to being a good hockey player, not to mention that working out is good for your overall health. There are so many options to getting better, but it all comes down to one key ingredient: YOU! Be disciplined and work out every day, shoot pucks and stickhandle. Be creative and figure out a way to get better, trust in those that have been through it before and listen to their advise. Come on now, you got this! Have a blast and keep visualizing where you see yourself and your game. In the words of John Wooden, "Earn the right to be proud and confident."
